The Carl Sandburg College Board of Trustees last week took its first steps in the process of selecting the College’s next president.

During a special meeting Thursday evening, the Board approved a motion to hire Dr. Larry Ebbers as a consultant in the College’s search to replace President Dr. Lori Sundberg, who will step down from her position in June. Ebbers, a retired faculty member at Iowa State University, has four decades of experience as an education administrator and search consultant.

A presidential search interview team — comprising of Board of Trustees Chairperson Lee Johnson, Student Trustee Donyae Payton and several faculty and staff members — is scheduled to interview six to eight semifinalists for the position in late March. Three to four finalists will then be brought to the College in early April for interviews that will include live, public forums for each candidate. The Board hopes to have a decision in place on the new president for its May 24 meeting.

“This is the Board’s primary responsibility,” Johnson said. “It incorporates 15 College employees in the preliminary process. This shows it is broad-based, which is most important. I am excited about the process and am encouraged about moving forward. We will work very closely with Dr. Ebbers to get the best person we can get.”

The College has created a page on its website to provide details and updates on the presidential search. The page includes a survey that asks Sandburg employees and community members to share what characteristics they believe the new president should possess and what their areas of focus should be in moving the College forward. The presidential search webpage can be found here.
