Sandburg Women Kick Off Conference Season With Win at Kishwaukee

The Carl Sandburg College women’s basketball team kicked off its quest for a third straight Arrowhead Conference title with a 56-41 victory at Kishwaukee on Tuesday night.

The Chargers (7-8, 1-0) racked up 19 steals and forced a whopping 39 Kougars (5-11, 0-1) turnovers en route to winning their fourth straight contest.

Sophomore Madison Lowe (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap) scored a game-high 15 points on 7-of-13 shooting and a game-high four steals to lead the Chargers. Freshman Jordan Price (Fulton, Ill./Fulton) had 14 points along with seven rebounds, four assists and two steals for Sandburg.

Alivia Cummings (Peoria, Ill./Limestone) and Katie Droste (Biggsville, Ill./West Central) also had four assists each for the Chargers, who led 18-8 after the first quarter and 36-17 at halftime. Sandburg’s largest lead of the night came at 55-31.

The Chargers were outrebounded 51-34 but had a 25-8 edge in points off turnovers and outscored the Kougars 40-22 in the paint.

Sandburg will play its first home game of the conference season at 5:30 p.m. Thursday against Illinois Valley in a matchup of last year’s league co-champions. The men’s contest is scheduled to follow at 7:30 p.m.
