The Carl Sandburg College women’s basketball team raced to a huge first-quarter lead and went on to beat Black Hawk 50-35 on Thursday night in its final road game of the regular season.
The Chargers (11-14 overall, 4-4 Arrowhead Conference) stormed to a 23-2 lead at the end of the opening 10 minutes and took a 32-12 lead into halftime. The Braves’ 35 points was the lowest total allowed by the Chargers this season.
Willow Porter (Wyoming, Ill./Stark County) scored 14 points, including a pair of first-quarter 3-pointers, to lead Sandburg’s offense for the second straight game. Danayzia Stuckey (Peoria, Ill./Limestone) scored 11 and Jordan Price (Fulton, Ill./Fulton) added 10 for the Chargers, who saw all 11 players get into the contest.
Black Hawk didn’t have any players reach double figures, with Nadia Trice hitting three 3s for a team-best nine points.
Sandburg will close the regular season with a pair of home games next week. The Chargers face league leader Highland at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and take on Kishwaukee at 5:30 p.m. Thursday on Sophomore Night.
