Jordan Price (Fulton, Ill./Fulton) recorded her first career double-double and came up with a key steal and basket down the stretch to help the Carl Sandburg College women’s basketball team win 68-63 at Sauk Valley on Thursday night.

The Chargers (9-12 overall, 3-2 Arrowhead Conference) saw a 21-point second half lead disappear, but a steal from Madison Lowe (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap) led to a Katie Droste (Biggsville, Ill./West Central) layup in the final 5 minutes to give Sandburg the lead for good at 61-60.

Up 64-62, Price came up with a steal and layup with 1:21 to go to extend the Chargers’ lead. The freshman guard finished with 14 points and a season-high 12 rebounds.

Sandburg led 33-23 at the break and pushed its advantage to 46-25 midway through the third quarter before the Skyhawks (7-11, 2-3) rallied. Sauk Valley grabbed a 60-59 lead on Shian Galbreath’s 3-pointer with 4:53 left before the Chargers scored nine of the last 12 points.

Lowe finished with a team-best 16 points, including four 3-pointers, and sophomore Alivia Cummings added 15 points for Sandburg.

Bre Scheidegger scored a game-high 18 to lead Sauk Valley.

Sandburg will play at Loras JV at 1 p.m. Saturday before a rematch against Sauk Valley at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at John M. Lewis Gymnasium. The two-time defending conference champion Chargers are tied for second with Illinois Valley — two games behind unbeaten Highland — midway through the Arrowhead schedule.
