The Carl Sandburg College men’s basketball team will look to add to its hardware collection this season when it opens postseason play at home this week.

The Chargers, who last week clinched their first Arrowhead Conference title since 1990, will host Bryant & Stratton at 7 p.m. Thursday at John M. Lewis Gymnasium in the quarterfinals of the Region IV District 4 tournament.

Sandburg (22-8), which has won eight in a row, earned the fourth seed in the tournament. The Bobcats (15-14) are seeded fifth.

The teams met twice in the regular season, with each winning on the other’s home court. The Chargers picked up a 66-59 victory on Nov. 25 in Milwaukee, while Bryant & Stratton rallied for a 79-76 overtime victory on Dec. 23 in Galesburg. The loss was Sandburg’s fifth in a row at the time, but the Chargers have won 12 of 13 since then.

Thursday’s winner will face top-seeded Morton or eighth-seeded Kishwaukee in the semifinals at 4 p.m. Sunday at Waubonsee. The championship is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. March 10 at Waubonsee, with the winner advancing to the NJCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Championship Tournament from March 20-24 in Danville.
