The Carl Sandburg College TRIO Upward Bound program is accepting participant applications for the 2018-19 academic year.

Upward Bound is a federally funded program that is free to participants. The goals of the program are to assist high school students in achieving academic success, develop well-rounded citizens and assist students with their transition into post-secondary education, with the goal of obtaining a college degree. Sandburg’s Upward Bound program serves 65 students each year. One hundred percent of high school seniors in Sandburg’s Upward Bound program during the 2016-2017 school year graduated from high school.

Applicants must be Knox County students currently in grades 8-10 at Abingdon-Avon, Galesburg, Knoxville or ROWVA schools. Students must be potential first-generation, college-bound students (neither parent with whom they live has a bachelor’s degree) and/or meet income or academic guidelines. The application deadline is April 20.

For more information or an application, contact Upward Bound administrative assistant Sara Gray at 309.341.5268 or sgross@sandburg.edu. The application also can be filled out or printed online by clicking here.

More information on the program is available at www.sandburg.edu/UB or by contacting your school’s guidance counselor.

Sandburg’s Upward Bound program receives $270,375 per year from the U.S. Department of Education to provide educational, social and cultural services to selected Knox County students. It first began at Sandburg in 1999 and was awarded a new five-year grant cycle last summer that runs through August 2022.
