The Carl Sandburg College Board of Trustees at its meeting Thursday evening issued a four-year contract extension to President Dr. Seamus Reilly.

The new contract goes into effect July 1 and ends June 30, 2024. This is the first contract extension issued to Reilly, who was hired in July 2018 as Sandburg’s seventh president. The extension is standard with the Board’s practices dating back to the tenure of Sandburg’s fourth president, Donald Crist.

“Dr. Reilly has done a wonderful job and is a valuable part of the Sandburg community,” Board Chairperson Gayla Pacheco said. “We are pleased at the work he has done in his two years with our students, faculty and staff, and the relationships he has built throughout our district makes him the right person to continue leading Carl Sandburg College for the next four years and beyond.”

“I would like to thank the Board for the opportunity to continue to serve Carl Sandburg College as president,” Reilly said. “The Board, faculty and staff at Sandburg work tirelessly to support our district, and I am honored to work with them to continue to serve all residents of District 518.”

The Board also appointed James Hutchings (humanities and fine arts), Lara Roemer (social and business sciences) and Marjorie Smolensky (math and natural sciences) as associate deans of their respective departments for the 2020-21 academic year.
