Security
The College has 21 Emergency Phones located across the Campus. They ring into the switchboard, who then contacts Security when an Emergency arises.
Emergency Phone Locations

Telephone and Dispatch
The switchboard is now located in the security office which is now part of that department. Any calls that needs additional assistance to be dispatched can be tranferred to security through the switchboard.

Emergency Procedures
Under what circumstances should you place an emergency call?

Should you call 911, 0 for switchboard, or security 344-2385?

Anytime a situation exists that you think a person, group of people, or the institution is in danger resulting from sickness, threats, fire, or other life threatening circumstances, you should view this as an emergency situation. Better to error on the side of safety and precaution.

The dispatch/security operator is available 24 hours, 7 days a week.

The above pertains to the outside and inside emergency telephones, classroom phones, and any other phones.

If you need assistance or have an emergency you may also reach security by going to any of the emergency telephones located inside and outside our campus, depressing the button, and state your location. Other options for contacting security are by dialing 5499from any campus phone, or 341-5499 from a cell phone.

The college has several ways to handle an emergency call situation depending on location of the emergency:

1. If you are in a classroom setting, there are in-house phones mounted on the wall directly inside the classroom, dial 911 to reach the public safety building. State the emergency situation. Then, once you have explained the situation to them, dial 5499 to reach the dispatcher. The dispatcher will respond by contacting the security department.

2. Emergency push button boxes are located both inside and outside our campus. Yellow push button boxes are located in the hallways throughout the campus. Stanchion pole push button boxes are located outside the buildings at various locations. By depressing the button you will connect with the security/dispatch office. Explain your situation; give the EP #on the box and action will be taken immediately. The emergency units are checked weekly to be sure they are functioning properly.

3. All pay phones can be used in case of emergency. To contact the public safety building, simply dial 911. The college has 4 inside pay phones-one in A building, one in the main building E section by student services, one between B/C wing near restrooms, and one in the Crist Student Center.

4. If a threatening call or bomb scare call comes into the dispatch office, the dispatch operator has the capability to depres a key that allows us to do one of two things. If it is a local call, the dispatch operator will get the trunk # and time of the call by depressing a special key on the console. If you receive the call on your own phone, the first thing you want to do is record the trunk number (8920-2) and time. Dial "5499" to get the dispatch operator. They will in turn contact security. We can then contact the Telephone Company and they can determine where this call came from. At this point, we usually seek the help of the police department. They work with the phone company because this now becomes a confidential matter, which will be shared with the college administration at the appropriate time. The *69 does not work through our PBX system, however, if you are on a direct line, you can use this feature.

5.There is a designated emergency calling tree from the emergency response team to use depending on the situation. This allows the appropriate people and action to be taken.

6. Our security personnel carry portable two way radios with them at all times.

7. The emergency response team has developed a flash card program that assists the team to respond quickly to an emergency situation.
