What is Tech Prep?
Over the past decades, there has been significant change in the landscape of the job market. Advanced communication, problem-solving, mathematical, scientific and critical thinking skills are necessary to enable qualified individuals to be successful. Tech Prep was established to meet these changes by offering a complimentary blend of academic and technical skills. These are both necessary in order to be competitive and marketable in today's ever-changing work force.
With a state-wide effort between Illinois high schools and community colleges, Tech Prep makes it possible for students to begin to identify, plan, and work toward their careers early in their high school years. By taking classes in high school which have been identified and selected to prepare students for continued educational programs in the community college setting, the move from high school to college becomes a seamless transition. With all of these advantages, students may be able to finish school sooner and qualify for higher paying jobs.
