What is Tech Prep? Tech Prep combines rigorous academics with the hands-on skills taught in vocational education courses. Why enroll in a Tech Prep program? Today's job market is highly competitive and always changing. Tech Prep equips you with the advanced skills demanded by employers such as technical, communication, problem-solving and computation. By following a Tech Prep program, you may finish school sooner (saving tuition dollars) and qualify for a higher paying job. How do I enroll in Tech Prep? Just talk with your counselor, and s/he will assist you in choosing the appropriate courses and a program leading to your occupational interests. What is advanced placement? If you take certain high school courses, you may be able to receive free college credit without taking the college course. To view the list of advanced placement courses for your high school, click here. How do I receive advanced placement? Credit will be placed on the permanent CSC transcript after you have successfully completed an advanced level course for which this coursework is a prerequisite. How do I apply for advanced placement? After completing a CSC application and taking the ASSET placement test, schedule an appointment wit our Tech Prep Counselor, Vicki McMullin by calling (309) 341-5237 or e-mailing vmcmullin@sandburg.edu. Do I need to earn a certain grade in order to qualify for advanced placement? You must earn an "A" or "B" to qualify. Remember, our goals are excellence and quality. Will advanced placement credit be accepted at all colleges? Many community colleges and some universities will accept the credit. Our Tech Prep counselor, Vicki McMullin, can assist with information regarding specific colleges/universities. Is there a time limit in order to receive advanced placement? In order to receive college credit for high school courses, you must apply for the credit within two years of high school graduation. Is there a maximum number of college credits I can receive through advanced placement? You can receive up to 6 credit hours at Carl Sandburg College.
