Sandburg Men’s Soccer has 4 Selected to All-Region IV Team

A historic spring season resulted in four Carl Sandburg College men’s soccer players earning spots on the 2021 All-Region IV Division II Team.

Iker Sanchez (Miami, Fla./Immaculata LaSalle), Guylberson Camille (Key West, Fla./Key West), Rhys Holt (Flintshire, Wales/Hawarden, Deeside Town) and Roldy Geneus (Orlando, Fla./Evans) were selected to the team after helping the Chargers to a 5-1-1 record and the program’s second appearance in the semifinals of the Region IV tournament.

Sanchez, a sophomore goalkeeper, started all seven games in net for Sandburg, posting a 5-1-1 record. He allowed just four goals while making 18 saves for an .818 save percentage. Sanchez helped the Chargers record four clean sheets during the season and made a season-high six saves in Sandburg’s victory May 4 over South Suburban.

A freshman forward, Camille led the Chargers with seven goals, five assists, 19 points and 20 shots. He also converted both of his chances from the penalty spot and netted three game-winning goals, which ranked eighth in NJCAA Division II. Camille got off to a hot start as he scored in each of the Chargers’ first four matches, helping them to a 4-0 start. He recorded two goals and an assist in three of those games, and he had a goal and two assists in the other match during that stretch.

Holt, a sophomore forward, started just one of Sandburg’s seven games this spring but finished second to Camille in goals (three), assists (two), and points (eight) on seven shots. He scored twice in Sandburg’s 5-0 win May 1 at Bryant & Stratton, and he was involved in all of the Chargers’ goals in their win against South Suburban, scoring once and assisting on two others.

A freshman midfielder, Geneus started all seven contests for the Chargers and tallied two assists. Both came in Sandburg’s 4-0 victory April 13 at Kankakee. He also helped lead a Chargers defense that conceded just four goals in 540 minutes of game action.
