GALESBURG — The 12th-ranked Carl Sandburg College men’s soccer team bounced back from its first loss this season by cruising to a 6-1 Region IV victory over Bryant & Stratton on Thursday afternoon at Kleine Field.
The Chargers (7-1 overall, 4-1 Region IV), who closed a string a six consecutive home games, struck for three goals in a 7-minute span early in the first half and peppered the Bobcats (1-4-1, 1-1-1) with 25 shots, including 18 on goal.
Jean Forestal (Ocoee, Fla./Ocoee) scored twice for Sandburg, and his 11 goals on the season are good for second in NJCAA Division II.
Oliver Hawkins (Paddock Wood, England/Mascalls Academy) scored the match’s opening goal in the ninth minute off a rebound following a shot by Matheus Andrade (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Brasil Objectivo). Hawkins then assisted on Sandburg’s second goal with a service into the box in the 10th minute for Guylberson Camille (Key West, Fla./Key West), whose ninth goal of the season moved him into a tie for fifth nationally.
The Chargers took a 3-0 lead into halftime as Forestal put away a centering pass by Jordan Delgado Ramos (Orlando, Fla./Evans).
After the Bobcats got on the board in the 55th minute, Sandburg scored three times in the final 14 minutes, getting goals from Thomas Drake (The Hague, Netherlands/International School of The Hague), Forestal and Neemias Moreira (Uberlandia, Brazil/EE Messias Pedreiro).
The Chargers’ defense limited Bryant & Stratton to just two shots on goal with Benjamin Hilton (West Sussex, England/Crawley Town Academy) and Eric Schumacher (Bremen, Germany/Alfred-Faust-Strabe) sharing time in net.
