GALESBURG — Jean Forestal (Ocoee, Fla./Ocoee) and Guylberson Camille (Key West, Fla./Key West) connected for both goals as the No. 8 Carl Sandburg College men’s soccer team earned its second straight victory over a ranked opponent with a 2-0 win against Illinois Valley on Thursday at Kleine Field.
The unbeaten Chargers (6-0), coming off a win Saturday over then-No. 3 Morton, scored a pair of goals early in the second half to take down IVCC (6-3), the 10th-ranked team in NJCAA Division III. Forestal’s two goals moves him into a tie for second place nationally, with 10 on the season.
Following a scoreless first half, Camille sent a cross into the box in the 47th minute. An Eagles defender whiffed on a clearing attempt and the ball ended up on the foot of Forestal, who put it away for a 1-0 lead.
Forestal’s second goal came on a loose ball in the box in the 52nd minute. After an initial shot, the rebound went to Camille, who passed to Forestal. Forestal settled the ball, turned and fired a left-footed shot into the net for a 2-0 Chargers advantage.
Sandburg keeper Benjamin Hilton (West Sussex, England/Crawley Town Academy) needed just four saves to secure a clean sheet. His most impressive stop came when he lunged to his right to turn away a point-blank shot in the 75th minute.
