CHICAGO HEIGHTS — In a matchup of top-10 teams, Prairie State rallied to force overtime and scored the game-winner early in OT to defeat the Carl Sandburg College men’s soccer team 3-2 on Thursday.
The 10th-ranked Chargers (9-2 overall, 6-2 Region IV) took a 2-0 lead into halftime on an unassisted goal from Jean Forestal (Ocoee, Fla./Ocoee) and a goal from Guylberson Camille (Key West, Fla./Key West) with an assist by Forestal.
Second-ranked Prairie State (11-1, 9-0), playing down a man due to a red card at the end of the first half, converted a pair of penalties in the second half to tie the game, which was played in rainy conditions.
The Pioneers’ Jahmar Stinchcombe scored the golden goal less than a minute into the overtime period on a cross by Stefan Mazzariol.
Sandburg totaled 11 shots in the contest, with five of them on goal. Chargers keeper Ben Hilton (West Sussex, England/Crawley Town Academy) made five saves.
