Sandburg announces 2024 summer session graduates

DIXON — The Carl Sandburg College men’s cross country team had the first seven runners across the line in a dominant showing at the Sauk Valley Skyhawk Invitational on Saturday.

Sandburg’s Emmanuel Kiprop (Kenya/Kericho TEA Boys’ Secondary) won the 8-kilometer race in 26:09, followed by Josphat Langat (Kenya/Alliance) in 26:16 and Calton Kibet (Kenya/Poiywek Secondary) in 28:00. It was the third time this season that trio has swept the top three spots in a race.

Finishing fourth through seventh for the Chargers were Brian Kipchemis (Kenya/Segero Adventist) in 29:41, Nicholas Seaver (Industry, Ill./Rushville-Industry) in 29:48, Nicholas Janson in 29:52 (Cambridge, Ill./Cambridge) and Amos Kipkemoi (Kenya/Olbobo Secondary) in 30:40.

The Chargers totaled 15 points in the sweep. Runner-up Waubonsee had 50 points.

JEPKIRUI WINS WOMEN’S RACE
Barbra Jepkirui’s (Kenya/St. Teresa Girls’ Secondary) came away with a victory in the 5K women’s race as the Chargers took second as a team.

Jepkirui finished in 22:50, well ahead of the 23:18 by runner-up Elly Kuhn of Waubonsee. Mary Njuguna (Kenya/Turbo Girls Secondary) was third for Sandburg in 23:33, and Kelynn Boyle (Amboy, Ill./Amboy) also finished in the top five, placing fifth in 25:18.

Waubonsee had 33 points to edge the Chargers by six. Sauk Valley had 57 points.
