GALESBURG — Both Carl Sandburg College cross country teams moved up one spot in this week’s latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NJCAA Division II polls.

The Chargers men’s team climbed to No. 6 in the fourth rankings of the season, while the women’s team jumped up to No. 21. It marked the third straight time both squads have appeared in the national rankings.

Sandburg’s men’s team totaled a perfect score of 15 points in winning each of its last two races. At the Chargers’ most recent event, Saturday’s Pre-Region Showdown at Kishwaukee, freshman Josphat Langat (Kenya/Alliance) broke his own 8-kilometer school record with a time of 25:18. It marked the third time this season Sandburg’s school record has fallen.

The Chargers women’s team also earned a victory at the Pre-Region Showdown as Barbra Jepkirui (Kenya/St. Teresa Girls’ Secondary) won her second straight race with a 5K time of 15:48.

The Chargers will compete in the Region IV Championships at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 30 at Kishwaukee.
