Chargers Fall to Blazers, No. 4 Lakers at John Wood Classic

QUINCY — Addison Eger (Mendon, Ill./Unity) continued her hot start to the season, but the Carl Sandburg College women’s basketball team dropped a pair of contests at the John Wood Classic over the weekend.

The Chargers lost 58-46 on Friday to the host Blazers before losing 65-43 on Saturday to Lake Land, the No. 4 team in NJCAA Division II.

Eger led all players with a season-high 25 points — just two off her career high — in Friday’s loss to John Wood. She finished 9 of 20 from the floor and grabbed a team-leading six rebounds. Kelsi Legge (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg) added eight points and four boards for the Chargers against the Blazers.

Eger led Sandburg in scoring and rebounding again Saturday against Lake Land, collecting a game-best 20 points and pulling down six boards. The sophomore went 6 of 11 from the field and hit 8 of her 10 shots at the foul line.

Eger has led the Chargers in scoring in all seven games this season, recording at least 20 points six times. She’s averaging 21.0 points per game, which ranks 11th nationally.

Lily Hudgins (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg) scored eight points for Sandburg (1-6) against the Lakers, hitting both of her 3-point tries and going 3 of 3 overall.
