GALESBURG — The Carl Sandburg College women’s basketball team fell short in its Arrowhead Conference opener Tuesday night at John M. Lewis Gymnasium with a 58-48 loss to Black Hawk.
KEY MOMENTS
• The Chargers (2-12, 0-1) trailed by as many as 16 in the first half but used an 11-1 stretch to close the third quarter to claw within 40-35. Karsen White (Mapleton, Ill./Limestone) opened the burst with back-to-back 3-pointers.
• Sandburg pulled within 47-46 with 6:05 to play as White fed Lilly Blackford (Peoria, Ill./Notre Dame) for a layup, but the Braves held the Chargers to just one bucket the rest of the game, outscoring them 11-2.
SANDBURG STANDOUT
Emily Cash (Yates City, Ill./Farmington) had nine points and a team-best seven rebounds for the Chargers. The sophomore was 3 of 6 from the field, 3 for 3 at the free-throw line and added an assist and a steal.
