Sandburg’s tutoring center is a free resource for students who want assistance with assignments, academic planning and exam preparation. Whether you’re striving to maintain that A grade or need significant help with a subject, the tutoring center offers a place for all students to take charge of their studies.

The tutoring center offers friendly, accessible academic assistance in all subject areas in person at the Galesburg campus and via virtual options for the Carthage campus. Located in room A031, the tutoring center is open from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Thursday and by appointment on Fridays and evenings. All Sandburg students also have access to 24/7 online tutoring through Brainfuse.

One student who’s frequently used the tutoring center is Alexis Brammeier, who will graduate this spring and enroll in nursing school this fall. We met with her to discuss the benefits of using the tutoring center and how it’s helped her meet the requirements for her education.

Why did you decide to start using the tutoring center?
I decided to use the tutoring facility to get more help understanding my assignments. Even though I'm not confused or need further assistance right now, I believe it's important to have someone help you complete your coursework as best you can.

How do you usually use the tutoring center when you need help?
I decided to organize my weekly routine according to my course load and use the tutoring center for homework. Setting priorities for my time and organizing my weekly assignments are important to me. I think it’s important for more students to know this great accommodation to help students succeed.

Can you share an example of when the tutoring center helped you with a challenging subject?
I mainly received help from the tutoring center for my statistics class. Usually, the only subject I find difficult is math. When I went to the tutoring facility, I found it easy to finish my schoolwork and be ready for tests.

How did the tutoring center help you do better in your classes?
Besides dedicating their time to students, they also ensure they succeed. The tutoring center offers assistance in all subject areas, including science, math, writing and biology. Every student finds success using it, and I encourage other students to try it. I have consistently received honors, but I still make time to set priorities and use my resources, including the tutoring center.

What do you like the most about this service?
The welcoming atmosphere at the tutoring center was my favorite feature. It's difficult enough to admit when you need help in education, so a supportive environment is essential for growth.
