The Sandburg community recently came together to unveil a display that recognizes those who played a pivotal in supporting nursing student success.
The Ann Rhykerd-Asplund & 100 Extraordinary Women display is located in the Science & Technology Center on the Galesburg campus. It includes a physical presentation honoring Rhykerd-Asplund, who established a nursing student scholarship at Sandburg in 2002 and bequeathed $2.5 million to Sandburg in support of student success upon her passing in 2016.
The display also has a digital component featuring the donors and honorees from the Sandburg Foundation’s 100 Extraordinary Women campaign. The initiative, which surpassed its goal of $100,000, helps eliminate educational barriers for Sandburg nursing students. Supporters of the campaign had the option of making their contribution in honor of a woman with special meaning to them.
In addition to revealing the display, attendees at the event had the opportunity to meet current students in the Sandburg nursing program and tour the Science & Technology Center, which opened in 2024 and houses the college’s health professions programs.
