Chelsea Lesniewski (Fulton, Ill./Fulton) had a four-hit afternoon, but the Carl Sandburg College softball team was swept in a doubleheader Friday at St. Ambrose JV.
Lesniewski had two hits in each contest as the Chargers lost 7-5 in the opener and 9-1 in Game 2.
The Chargers (0-10) trailed 6-1 after four innings in Game 1 but got within a run after a four-run fifth. Zoe Wetherell (Washington, Ill./Washington) doubled in a pair, Adre Vetter (Emden, Ill./Hartsburg-Emden) singled in a run and Kelsie French (Camanche, Iowa/Camanche) added an RBI groundout to make it 6-5. The Fighting Bees, though, tacked on a run in the sixth and held on for the victory.
Lesniewski, French and Sam Mayberry (Pekin, Ill./Pekin) each had a pair of hits for Sandburg.
Lesniewski’s first-inning solo homer in Game 2 gave the Chargers an early lead, but St. Ambrose responded with a five-run first. Lesniewski added a single later in the contest and finished the day 4 for 5 with two runs scored and two RBIs.
The Chargers’ next contest is their Arrowhead Conference opener at 3 p.m. Tuesday against Highland at the William “Bill” Hungate Baseball/Softball Complex.
