The creative works of Carl Sandburg College students will be featured during the annual juried Student Art Show from March 27-May 3 in the Lonnie Eugene Stewart Art Gallery on the Main Campus in Galesburg, 2400 Tom L. Wilson Blvd.

An opening reception will take place from 6-8 p.m. March 31. Both the show and reception are free and open to the public. Awards will be given in several categories. The juror for this year’s show is Monmouth native Mary Schuytema.

Schuytema works predominantly in the medium of clay but also uses metal, fibers and paint in her work. She earned a Master’s in Fine Arts with distinction at Miami University of Ohio in 1990 and has had solo shows in Cincinnati and Galesburg in addition to being a participant in “Six Women, Six Words” at the Buchanan Center for the Arts in Monmouth.

Schuytema has run Chickenscratch Pottery in Kirkwood since 1993, taught Art History at Hill Correctional Center and is an education developer for a large art supply company. Most recently she’s taught workshops in various media in the Monmouth, Macomb and Burlington, Iowa, areas through her business Art Time Out.

Established in 2006 and named for area artist Lonnie Eugene Stewart in 2015, the Lonnie Eugene Stewart Art Gallery has hosted group faculty exhibits, juried student exhibits and the works of local professional photographers and painters.
