Chelsea Lesniewski (Fulton, Ill./Fulton) and Chloe Sullivan (Port Byron, Ill./Riverdale) each drove in three runs on the day, but the Carl Sandburg College softball team was swept by John Wood in a doubleheader Monday afternoon at the William “Bill” Hungate Baseball/Softball Complex. The Blazers won both games in five innings, taking the opener 12-1 and Game 2 16-6.

Lesniewski knocked in the Chargers’ lone run in the opener with a double to center in the first inning to plate Lexi Strange (Emden, Ill./Hartsburg-Emden), who led off the frame with a single.

Back-to-back RBI singles from Lesniewski and Sullivan gave the Chargers (4-20) a brief 2-1 lead in the first inning of Game 2, but JWCC blew the game open before Sandburg scored four two-out runs in the fifth. In that frame, Lesniewski collected an RBI single, Sullivan doubled in two and Grace Ferguson (Monmouth, Ill./Monmouth-Roseville) followed with a run-scoring single.

The Chargers’ Arrowhead Conference doubleheader originally scheduled for 3 p.m. Tuesday at Highland has been changed to a home game. Sandburg will then host Kishwaukee on Wednesday in another league twinbill as it continues a string of nine straight days of doubleheaders.
