Mitchell Ellison (East Moline, Ill./United Township) and Nolan Ard (Carthage, Ill./Illini West) each totaled five RBIs on the day as the Carl Sandburg College baseball team swept Sauk Valley 9-3 and 14-1 on Saturday afternoon at the William “Bill” Hungate Baseball/Softball Complex.

The Chargers didn’t trail in either contest as they jumped to an 8-0 lead after the third in Game 1 and a 14-0 advantage through four innings in Game 2.

Ellison drove in three runs in the opener and two in the nightcap, finishing 5 for 8 with three runs scored. Ard knocked in a run in Game 1, then added a sacrifice fly, a run-scoring single and a two-run base hit in Game 2.

Levi Brening (Coon Rapids, Minn./DuQuoin) went 4 for 4 in Game 1 and is now batting .514 (18 for 35) in Arrowhead contests. Jordan Chandler (Erie, Ill./Erie) delivered a solo homer in Game 2 — his second longball in three games — to match Brening for the team lead with seven on the year.

Matt Trouten turned in six solid innings in the opener, allowing three runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out seven. He won for the fifth time in his last six starts and moved to 4-0 in conference matchups.

Lefty Alec Drake picked up a five-inning complete game in the finale, allowing just a run on four hits and two walks while fanning a career-best nine batters. He won his third straight decision and improved to 6-2 overall.

The Chargers return to action at 2 p.m. today with a home doubleheader against Waubonsee.
