The Carl Sandburg College Community Garden will have informational meetings for new, returning and interested volunteers at 12:15 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. April 19 in Room A040 on the Main Campus in Galesburg, 2400 Tom L. Wilson Blvd.

Anyone interested in assisting with the garden this year is encouraged to attend one of these sessions. There are no qualifications needed to be a Sandburg Community Garden volunteer aside from a passion for giving back to the community.

Established in 2011 and located near the entrance to the Main Campus, the Sandburg Community Garden produces thousands of pounds of freshly grown food each year that is donated to those in need. Work in the garden is done entirely by volunteers.

The garden produced 3,972 pounds of food in 2016 behind a combined 743 hours of volunteer work. Most of the garden’s donations went to FISH Food Pantry, which serves more than 500 families each month; St. Vincent DePaul food pantry, which serves 100 people each month; and LaGrace Hall of Hope, which houses six women in need and helps them to live safe and independently again.
