Carl Sandburg College recently hosted a workshop with area health industry partners as well as area high school and community stakeholders to discuss the importance of health career pathways and implementing dual credit opportunities for high school students who have an interest in pursuing a health career.

Mischelle Monagle, dean of health professions at Sandburg, presented on the career pathways the College will offer this fall through its seven associate degree programs and eight certificate programs in health science.

In addition, Dr. Brian Durham, deputy director for academic affairs for the Illinois Community College Board, discussed the state’s research on the success of career pathways and its plan to use them to prepare students to complete their certificate or degree.

The workshop concluded with a discussion among the group about the next steps that would be taken in addressing health career pathways and dual credit opportunities. This was the first in a series of workshops to take place over the next several years about the importance of implementing career pathways building and maintaining partnerships at the K-12, college and professional levels.
