Chargers Split Doubleheader at Augustana JV

The Carl Sandburg College baseball team split a doubleheader at Augustana JV on Monday, taking Game 1 6-2 before dropping the nightcap 6-4.
Mitch Ellison (East Moline, Ill./United Township) and Jordan Chandler (Erie, Ill./Erie) each drove in two runs for the Chargers (28-22) in the opener. Sandburg held on for the victory after building a 6-0 lead through its half of the fourth.
Shane Coleman (Abingdon, Ill./Abingdon-Avon) went 3 for 4 at the plate and scored two runs for the Chargers, and Payton Hartbank (Mattoon, Ill./Mattoon) had a pair of hits, scored twice and drove in a run.
Jack Gray (Burlington, Iowa/Notre Dame) picked up his second victory of the season after allowing just one hit over 3 1/3 scoreless innings in relief of Travis Ausbury (Macomb, Ill./Macomb).
Augustana JV broke a 2-2 tie in Game 2 with a four-run sixth. Nolan Ard (Carthage, Ill./Illini West) had two of Sandburg’s five hits in the contest. Ausbury, Chandler and Blake Russell (Joy, Ill./Mercer County) each knocked in a run for the Chargers.
Sandburg will wrap up its regular season with a nine-inning game at 5 p.m. today at Southeastern (Iowa).
