Shortstop Angel Figueroa (East Chicago, Ind./Bishop Noll) collected five hits on the day, but the Carl Sandburg College baseball team dropped a pair of contests at 16h-ranked McHenry County on Sunday. The Scots took the opener 5-1 and Game 2 9-3.

Figueroa went a perfect 3 for 3 with two doubles in Game 1, but the rest of the Chargers’ lineup combined for just two hits. After Figueroa led off the third with a two-bagger, he came around on an RBI single from Blake Russell to cut Sandburg’s deficit to 2-1.

The Scots, though, added a run in the fourth and two in the sixth off Matt Trouten (Moline, Ill./Moline), who had a three-game win streak on the mound snapped. Trouten tossed a complete game, allowing 11 hits while striking out two.

Figueroa added two more hits in Game 2, but the Chargers couldn’t dig out of an early 6-0 hole. Sandburg cut its deficit in half in the sixth with a run-scoring groundout from Shane Coleman (Abingdon, Ill./Abingdon-Avon) an RBI single from Jack Gray (Burlington, Iowa/Notre Dame) and a Figueroa RBI double, but McHenry County came back with three in the bottom of the sixth.

The Chargers will wrap up their regular season with road matchups Monday (a 5 p.m. doubleheader at Augustana JV) and Tuesday (a 5 p.m. nine-inning game at Southeastern).
