Sandburg Softball Ends Season in Region IV Quarterfinals

The Carl Sandburg College softball team saw its season come to a close with by losing at Highland on Wednesday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the Region IV tournament.
The Cougars took Game 1 of the best-of-three series 7-1 and rallied to win Game 2 10-8 to finish off the sweep.
The Chargers (7-35) scored seven straight runs in the fourth and fifth innings of Game 2 to go ahead 8-4, but Highland plated six in the bottom of the sixth to regain the lead.
Chloe Sullivan (Port Byron, Ill./Riverdale) and Jordan Guedet (Washington, Ill./Washington), each drove in two runs for the Chargers in Game 2, with Guedet going 2 for 3. Lexi Strange (Emden, Ill./Hartsburg-Emden) went 3 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI out of the leadoff spot. Abbey French (Alexis, Ill./United) and Ashley Anglin (Mahomet, Ill./Mahomet-Seymour) also had two hits apiece for Sandburg.
French also picked up two hits in the opener, including a double, to have a four-hit day in her final games as a Charger. Sullivan knocked in Sandburg’s lone run in Game 1, an RBI groundout in the sixth that made it 7-1.
