Chargers Drop 5-Set Thriller at Southeastern

WEST BURLINGTON, Iowa

The Carl Sandburg College volleyball team came up on the short end of a thrilling five-set match against Southeastern (Iowa) on Thursday, falling 26-28, 25-20, 23-25, 25-22, 25-23.

The loss came despite freshmen Josalyn Owens (Lincoln, Ill./Lincoln) and Hannah Thompson (Blandinsville, Ill./West Prairie) each recording season highs in kills. Owens tallied 24 while Thompson delivered 16 in addition to her 13 digs.

Setters Emma Derry (Augusta, Ill./Southeastern) and Camerin Huizenga (Fulton, Ill./Fulton) also had season highs in assists, with Derry notching 38 and Huizenga handing out 25. They also had 10 digs each, and Derry led the Chargers (2-5) with two aces as well.

Freshman Jordan Price (Fulton, Ill./Fulton) had recorded five blocks for Sandburg, and sophomore libero Adre Vetter (Emden, Ill./Hartsburg-Emden) had 35 digs, marking the third time in Sandburg’s last four matches she’s picked up at least 33 digs.

The Chargers will be out of action for Labor Day weekend before playing their home opener at 7 p.m. Tuesday against Monmouth JV at John M. Lewis Gymnasium.
