Cyclones Rally in 2nd Half to Defeat Sandburg Men’s Soccer

The Carl Sandburg College men’s soccer team came up just short in a 4-3 loss Sunday at Moraine Valley In a battle of teams unbeaten in Region IV action.

The Chargers (2-4, 2-1) took a 2-0 lead into halftime behind goals from Daniel Freedman (Newcastle, England/Monkseaton), assisted by Jonathan Bustos (Irapuato, Mexico/Streator), and Sam Walton (Newcastle, England/Monkseaton), assisted by Stephen Nganga (Nairobi, Kenya/St. Mary’s), only to see the Cyclones rally in the final 45 minutes.

Freedman’s second goal of the match gave Sandburg a 3-1 lead in the second half, but Moraine Valley (4-0, 3-0) scored three unanswered goals, including the equalizer on a penalty kick.

The Chargers had a chance in the last minute when Victor Dantas (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/CESEC) got in behind the defense, but his shot went wide.

Sandburg’s next match is 6:30 p.m. Thursday at DuPage.
