The Carl Sandburg College men’s soccer team lost a back-and-forth contest at DuPage on Thursday evening, falling to the Chaparrals 4-3 in double overtime.

The Chargers (2-5. 2-2) dropped their second straight one-goal decision against a Region IV opponent despite the third two-goal performance of the season from sophomore Daniel Freedman (Newcastle, England/Monkseaton). Freedman scored the Chargers’ first and third goals of the contest in addition to notching an assist.

Freedman took a pass from Victor Dantas (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/CESEC) to notch the score at 1, and the two connected again — this time with Dantas heading in a Freedman corner kick — to make it 2-2. With Sandburg trailing 3-2, Freedman delivered the equalizer when he put back his own rebound, forcing overtime.

It stayed that way until the second OT, when the Chaparrals were the beneficiaries of an own goal by the Chargers.

George Mutimer (Colchester, England/Colchester Institute) made 11 saves for Sandburg in the loss.

The Chargers will return home to face Prairie State at 1 p.m. Saturday at Kleine Field in another Region IV matchup.
