Grafton Continues Run of Rounds in 70s at Fyre Lake Preview

Freshman Brady Grafton (Orion, Ill./Orion) shot a team-best 9-over-par 79 on Friday as the Carl Sandburg College men’s golf team took fifth in the Fyre Lake Preview.
Grafton closed with a 38 on the back and has shot in the 70s in each of the Chargers’ four rounds on the season. Bryce Grafton (Orion, Ill./Orion) and Ryan Hansen (Neponset, Ill./Kewanee) each added rounds of 82, and Brayden Reece (Monmouth, Ill./Monmouth-Roseville) shot a 94 to contribute to Sandburg’s total of 327, which was good for fifth.
Andrew Welgat (Kewanee, Ill./Kewanee) shot a 96 that didn’t go toward the Chargers’ team score. Sandburg finished 12 shots behind fourth-place Southeastern (Iowa) and 11 ahead of sixth-place Sauk Valley. Black Hawk’s gold team totaled a 291 for the team title.
Michael Curry (Petersburg, Ill./PORTA) matched Brady Grafton’s 79 while competing as an individual for the Chargers. Other individuals for Sandburg were Nate Bizarri (Monmouth, Ill./Monmouth-Roseville) with an 83 and Anthony Neve (Macomb, Ill./Macomb) with an 84.
The Chargers’ next event is the Duane Chanay Invite at 1:45 p.m. Friday at Byron Hills in Port Byron.
