Freshman Brady Grafton (Orion, Ill./Orion) shot a team-best 9-over-par 79 on Friday as the Carl Sandburg College men’s golf team took fifth in the Fyre Lake Preview.

Grafton closed with a 38 on the back and has shot in the 70s in each of the Chargers’ four rounds on the season. Bryce Grafton (Orion, Ill./Orion) and Ryan Hansen (Neponset, Ill./Kewanee) each added rounds of 82, and Brayden Reece (Monmouth, Ill./Monmouth-Roseville) shot a 94 to contribute to Sandburg’s total of 327, which was good for fifth.

Andrew Welgat (Kewanee, Ill./Kewanee) shot a 96 that didn’t go toward the Chargers’ team score. Sandburg finished 12 shots behind fourth-place Southeastern (Iowa) and 11 ahead of sixth-place Sauk Valley. Black Hawk’s gold team totaled a 291 for the team title.
