Guilinger Leads 4 Chargers in Top 20 at Fighting Scot Invitational

Hayley Guilinger (Thomson, Ill./West Carroll) finished 10th overall and the Carl Sandburg College women’s golf team had three others finish in the top 20 as the Chargers took fourth as a team in the Fighting Scot Invitational on Friday and Saturday at Gibson Woods.

Guilinger opened with a first-round 87 on Friday and added a 94 Saturday for a two-day total of 181. Freshmen Emily Franzoni (Canton, Ill./Canton) and Grace Scott (Biggsville, Ill./West Central) tied for 17th after shooting 186 for the tournament. Franzoni shot 92-94, while Scott turned in rounds of 94 and 92. Competing as an individual, Katelyn Davis (Henderson, Ill./Galesburg) opened with a 93 and added second-round 94 to finish 20th.

Claudia Hazell (Melton, Australia/Victoria University) contributed to the Chargers’ score with rounds of 97 and 99. Renee Scheider (Lena, Ill./Lena-Winslow) shot 106 and 100 for Sandburg.

The Chargers’ 370 total was third after the opening round, and they dropped to fourth after shooting 379 on Sunday. Sandburg’s 749 score over two days topped Southeastern (Iowa) by two shots. The Chargers also bested teams from Loras (767) and Monmouth’s second squad (791).

Sandburg will wrap up its fall schedule with the Big Blue Fall Classic on Saturday and Sunday in Decatur.
