Hansen Leads Chargers at Illinois Valley Invite

The Carl Sandburg College men’s golf team posted matching rounds of 313 on Friday and Saturday to finish 10th at the Illinois Valley Invite.

The Chargers ended Friday’s first round at Deer Park in 10th place and remained there after Saturday’s final round at Oak Ridge. Sandburg finished eight shots back of ninth-place Governors State and 17 shots ahead of Lake County and Oakton, who tied for 11th in the 21-team event.

Sophomore Ryan Hansen (Neponset, Ill./Kewanee) posted the low round for the Chargers each day, shooting a 2-over-par 73 on Friday and 4-over 76 on Saturday. Brady Grafton (Orion, Ill./Orion) also shot in the 70s each day, carding a 76 and 78. Bryce Grafton (Orion, Ill./Orion) shot 79-81 and Brayden Reece (Monmouth, Ill./Monmouth-Roseville) had rounds of 85 and 78 for Sandburg. Anthony Neve (Macomb, Ill./Macomb) shot 89 each day for the Chargers.

Among individuals for Sandburg, Nate Bizarri (Monmouth, Ill./Monmouth-Roseville) posted rounds of 76 and 79 for a two-day total of 155. Michael Curry (Petersburg, Ill./PORTA) shot 81-82 and Andrew Welgat (Kewanee, Ill./Kewanee) shot 80-85.

The Chargers will return to LaSalle for the Oak Ridge Classic at noon Friday in their final tune-up before the Region IV Championship from Oct. 5-7, also at Oak Ridge.
