Kankakee, IL

Kankakee scored a golden goal in the second overtime to beat the Carl Sandburg College men’s soccer team 4-3 on Thursday, keeping the Chargers from qualifying for the Region IV tournament.

A win or draw would have gotten the Chargers (6-12-1 overall, 6-7-1 Region IV) into the postseason. The Cavaliers, who needed a victory to earn the final spot in the tournament, will face DuPage in the first round this weekend.

Sandburg struck for a 2-0 lead in the first half, but Kankakee came back to tie it up. The Chargers grabbed a 3-2 lead in the second half on a goal from Victor Dantas (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/CESEC).

The Cavaliers, though, were able to pull even again and scored the game-winner in the 105th minute on a goal from Alexis Molina, his second of the match.
