Chargers Rack Up 11 Aces in Sweep of Black Hawk

The Carl Sandburg College volleyball team served up 11 aces on the night and swept Black Hawk 25-22, 25-11, 25-23 on Tuesday in Arrowhead Conference play.
The Chargers had just nine hitting errors in the match and were led by 13 kills from freshman Josalyn Owens (Lincoln, Ill./Lincoln). Hannah Thompson (Blandinsville, Ill./West Prairie) tallied eight kills and 19 digs for Sandburg, and Jordan Price (Fulton, Ill./Fulton) added seven kills.
Adre Vetter (Emden, Ill./Hartsburg-Emden) matched Thompson’s 19 digs to share team-high honors, and Vetter also contributed a team-leading five aces for the Chargers (17-9, 7-2), who clinched a second-place finish in the Arrowhead.
Emma Derry (Augusta, Ill./Southeastern) had 22 assists for Sandburg, and fellow setter Camerin Huizenga (Fulton, Ill./Fulton) added 13.
The Chargers will play in the Iowa Central Triton Invite on Friday and Saturday before closing out their conference schedule at 6 p.m. Tuesday at home against Highland.
