Chargers Stay Hot With Easy Win at IVCC

The Carl Sandburg College volleyball team kept up its recent hot streak with a 25-22, 25-15, 25-11 Arrowhead Conference sweep at Illinois Valley on Wednesday night.
The Chargers (16-8, 6-2) have won three in a row, five of their last six and eight of their last 10. Each of Sandburg’s last four victories have been sweeps.
The Chargers got contributions from throughout the roster, including a team-leading 10 kills from Josalyn Owens (Lincoln, Ill./Lincoln) on 20 attempts. Sandburg also got nine kills, 13 digs and two aces from Hannah Thompson (Blandinsville, Ill./West Prairie).
Setters Camerin Huizenga (Fulton, Ill./Fulton) and Emma Derry (Augusta, Ill./Southeastern) had 16 and 13 assists, respectively, and each also had served up two of Sandburg’s seven aces on the night. Derry added 10 digs as well.
Libero Adre Vetter (Emden, Ill./Hartsburg-Emden) recorded 30 digs, reaching that mark for the fourth time this season. Sam Mayberry (Pekin, Ill./Pekin) and Jordan Price (Fulton, Ill./Fulton) each had three blocks to lead the Chargers at the net.
Sandburg will wrap up a stretch of three road matches in as many days when it plays at Lincoln at 6 p.m. Thursday.
