Sandburg Volleyball Tops Monmouth JV for 2nd Straight Sweep

The Carl Sandburg College volleyball team picked up its second straight sweep with a 25-20, 25-17, 25-22 victory at Monmouth JV on Tuesday night.

Josalyn Owens (Lincoln, Ill./Lincoln) led the attack for the Chargers (15-8) with 11 kills on the night. Sandburg also got seven kills from Lexi Strange (Emden, Ill./Hartsburg-Emden) and six from Jordan Price (Fulton, Ill./Fulton).

Hannah Thompson (Blandinsville, Ill./West Prairie) had a solid all-around night for the Chargers with five kills, 10 digs and a team-leading three aces. Sandburg also got two aces from Emma Derry (Augusta, Ill./Southeastern), who distributed a team-best 23 assists.

Adre Vetter (Emden, Ill./Hartsburg-Emden) picked up 21 digs for the Chargers, and Sam Mayberry (Pekin, Ill./Pekin) had two solo blocks to lead Sandburg.

The Chargers have won four of their last five matches and seven of their last nine.

Sandburg continues a three-day road swing by traveling to face Illinois Valley at 6 p.m. in an Arrowhead Conference match. The Chargers then play at Lincoln at 6 p.m. Thursday.
