The Carl Sandburg College volleyball team had five players — Adre Vetter (Emden, Ill./Hartsburg-Emden), Josalyn Owens (Lincoln, Ill./Lincoln), Hannah Thompson (Blandinsville, Ill./West Prairie), Emma Derry (Augusta, Ill./Southeastern) and Lexi Strange (Emden, Ill./Hartsburg-Emden) — voted to the All-Arrowhead Conference team, more than any other school.

The 12-player squad was voted on by conference coaches. Arrowhead champion Sauk Valley had four players chosen to the team.

Sandburg’s all-conference quintet helped the Chargers to a second-place finish in the league and to the program’s first appearance at the NJCAA Division II Volleyball Championship.

Vetter, a sophomore libero, was the leading vote-getter among Chargers, including one first-place vote. She earned all-conference honors for the second straight season, and she earned All-Region IV and All-Region IV tournament accolades earlier this year. She averaged 5.9 digs per set (178 total) against conference opponents and served 15 aces, including a season-high five in a home victory over Black Hawk.

Derry, a sophomore setter, also was named to the all-conference team for the second straight year, and she earned All-Region IV tournament honors earlier this month. She averaged 6.5 assists per set (194) and 2.1 digs per set (62) in 10 conference matches.

Owens, a freshman outside hitter, was the leading vote-getter among first-year players. She led the Chargers in total kills (91) and kills per set (3.0) in conference play. Owens notched double-digit kills in four Arrowhead matches, highlighted by a 15-kill performance in Sandburg’s victory at Black Hawk. In addition to earning All-Arrowhead honors, she was named to the All-Region IV and All-Region IV tournament teams earlier this month.

Thompson, a freshman outside hitter, finished second to Owens in kills (74) and second to Vetter in digs (97) among Chargers in Arrowhead action. She totaled 14 kills in Sandburg’s victory at Kishwaukee and had 19 digs in the Chargers’ home win against Black Hawk. Like Owens and Vetter, she was named to the All-Region IV and All-Region IV tournament teams earlier this month.

Strange, a sophomore right side, put down 58 kills and totaled 6.5 blocks while playing in all 10 conference matches. The lefthander’s 12-kill performance at home against Kishwaukee was her most this year against a league opponent.
