Chargers Split Pair of Games at Oakton Classic

The Carl Sandburg College men’s basketball team split a pair of games Friday and Saturday at the Oakton Classic.
The Chargers dropped a 74-67 decision to the host Owls on Friday. Matt Wendling (Athens, Ill./Athens) led Sandburg (6-2) with 18 points on 9-of-15 shooting and added six rebounds. T.J. Pendleton (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg) and Kourtlandt Martin (Evansville, Ind./Central) each added 10 points for the Chargers, who trailed 34-30 at the half.
Wendling had another strong performance in Sandburg’s 80-71 victory Sunday over Waubonsee, totaling 23 points on 8-of-10 shooting, six rebounds, four assists and three steals. Martin scored 16 and handed out a team-high eight assists, and Tyler Houston (Knoxville, Ill./Knoxville) hit a pair of 3-pointers and finished with 10 points for the Chargers.
Sandburg is back in action when it hosts Knox JV at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at John M. Lewis Gymnasium.
