Sandburg Men's Hoops Closes Michigan Trip With Winning Record

The Carl Sandburg College men’s basketball team finished its weekend in Michigan with a winning record after splitting the final two legs of its three-game trip.
The Chargers dropped a 68-66 decision at Glen Oaks on Friday night for their first loss of the season before rebounding to beat Kellogg 85-66 on Saturday afternoon.
Sandburg (4-1) saw a 34-27 halftime lead at Glen Oaks slip away despite getting a double-double from Matt Wendling (Athens, Ill./Athens) for the second straight game. Wendling had 25 points and 10 rebounds while shooting 10 of 15 from the floor.
Kourtlandt Martin (Evansville, Ind./Central) had 21 points, four steals and four assists for the Chargers. Juan Contreras (Kewanee, Ill./Kewanee) had his first double-digit scoring night for Sandburg with 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting.
David Miller’s 22 point led four Glen Oaks players in double figures.
Martin flirted with a triple-double in Saturday’s victory, finishing with 19 points (on 9-of-13 shooting), eight rebounds, seven assists and four steals. Sandburg had five players reach double figures as it shot 60.3 percent (38 of 63) from the floor.
Wendling finished a rebound shy of his third straight double-double, scoring 18 and grabbing a team-high nine boards. T.J. Pendleton (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg) scored 11 and grabbed six rebounds for the Chargers.
Contreras and Deandrey Robinson (Peoria, Ill./Peoria) each came off the bench to hit double digits. Robinson hit 6 of 8 from the floor and finished with 13 points, seven rebounds and a team-leading five steals. Contreras scored 11 on 5-of-8 shooting for Sandburg, which committed just seven turnovers.
The Chargers will hit the road again at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Rockford JV
