Wendling’s Double-Double Helps Chargers Open 3-Game Trip With Victory

Sophomore forward Matt Wendling (Athens, Ill./Athens) recorded his first double-double of the season to help the Carl Sandburg College men’s basketball team remain undefeated on the season with an 77-65 victory over Aquinas JV on Thursday.

The Chargers (3-0), playing the first of three games in three days on a trip to Michigan, took a 37-25 lead into halftime and shot 54.7 percent (35 of 64) from the floor for the game.

Wendling scored 13 points and grabbed a team-leading 10 rebounds while also recording four assists and two steals. Sophomore point guard Kourtlandt Martin (Evansville, Ind./Central) had a team-best 19 points on 8-of-13 shooting while picking up five boards and distributing five assists.

Freshman forward T.J. Pendleton (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg) had his first double-digit scoring effort of the season with 14 points in addition to seven rebounds and three assists. Five of Pendleton’s rebounds came on the offensive glass.

The Chargers recorded 22 assists on their 35 field goals, with sophomore Tyler Houston (Knoxville, Ill./Knoxville) handing out a team-high six.

Sandburg continues its road trip by taking on Glen Oaks at 6 p.m. tonight. The Chargers will finish up with a contest at 2 p.m. Saturday at Kellogg.
