Freshman forward T.J. Pendleton (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg) recorded his first career double-double to help the Carl Sandburg College men’s basketball team pick up its fifth straight victory in a 93-55 win over Eureka JV on Sunday afternoon at John M. Lewis Gymnasium.

Pendleton had 12 points and grabbed 16 rebounds — the most by any Charger this season — as Sandburg (10-2) tied its season-high for points in a game. Frontcourt mate Deandrey Robinson (Peoria, Ill./Peoria) fell a rebound shy of his own double-double, scoring a game- and season-best 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting.

They helped Sandburg to a 52-28 edge on the glass against the Red Devils. It was the most rebounds in a game for the Chargers this season.

“T.J. and Deandrey really did a great job for us tonight, especially on the glass,” Chargers coach Ryan Twaddle said. “They’ve both played well for us the last couple weeks, and we can be a tough team to beat if they continue to get big rebounds for us like they did today. We’ll need them to keep it up as our schedule starts to get tougher.”

Sophomore Matt Wendling (Athens, Ill./Athens) hit all four of his attempts from 3-point range and finished with 16 points and seven boards while shooting 6 of 7 from the floor.

Tyler Houston (Knoxville, Ill./Knoxville) picked up a three-point play on the game’s opening possession to help the Chargers to a 23-4 start. Sandburg closed the first half on an 8-0 run to lead 46-22 at the break.

Jordan Eakle and Austin Zielsdorf each scored 16 to lead Eureka JV.

The Chargers’ next contest is 7:30 p.m. Friday against sixth-ranked Triton.
