Guilinger Leads Chargers at Augustana Viking Invite

Hayley Guilinger (Thomson, Ill./West Carroll) shot in the 80s each round and the Carl Sandburg College women’s golf team improved its score by 23 shots from the previous week during the Augustana Viking Invitational on Saturday and Sunday at Highland Springs.
Sandburg finished 11th in the tournament after shooting 371 on Saturday and 361 on Sunday, both marked improvements from the Chargers’ 394 at Wisconsin-Whitewater last weekend. Sunday’s round was the third-lowest for Sandburg in the entire 2017-18 season.
Guilinger paced the Chargers in each round, shooting 86 on Saturday and 84 on Sunday, which tied for her 33rd overall. Emily Franzoni (Canton, Ill./Canton) shot 179 (90-89), Renee Scheider (Lena, Ill./Lena-Winslow) 187 (96-91), Grace Scott (Biggsville, Ill./West Central) 196 (99-97) and Katelyn Davis (Henderson, Ill./Galesburg) 212 (104-108) for the tournament.
William Penn won the tournament with a two-day total of 623. Illinois Wesleyan’s Jackie Garcia was medalist after shooting 75 in each round to win by a stroke over teammate Maggie Warner.
