Freshman right-hander Jackson Porter (LaHarpe, Ill./Illini West) won his third game in as many appearances as the Carl Sandburg College baseball team split a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at home against Kankakee.

- Jordan Chandler (Erie, Ill./Erie) popped a two-run home run to center in the third to open the scoring and kick off a three-run frame for the Chargers.
- The first two batters in Sandburg’s half of the fourth reached and came around to score on a double by Braedon Blackford (Peoria, Ill./Notre Dame) to make it 5-1.
Sandburg Standout
Despite giving up his first earned run of the spring, Porter pitched 5 2/3 strong innings to improve to 3-0 on the season. The freshman struck out seven and gave up one run on seven hits and a walk while throwing 103 pitches (65 strikes). His ERA through 13 2/3 innings on the season stands at 0.66.

- Trailing 6-1 in the fifth, Sandburg got back in the game thanks to a run-scoring groundout from Isaac Riegler (McLean, Ill./Olympia), an RBI double from Takacs and an RBI single from Tyler Womack (Moline, Ill./Moline) to make it 6-4.
- Down 7-4 in the seventh, Takacs doubled home Blackford, and he scored on a Hunter Darst (Avon, Ill./Abingdon-Avon) hit to left to make it 7-6. Jack Swain (Metamora, Ill./Metamora) drew a two-out walk to put the winning run on, but Koy Smith (Revere, Mo./Canton) struck out to end the ballgame.
