The Carl Sandburg College baseball team shut out Rock Valley in Game 1 and won a slugfest in Game 2 to sweep the Golden Eagles on Sunday afternoon at the Hungate Baseball/Softball Complex.

Key Moments
- The Chargers had just two hits in the contest but needed only one to do all their scoring in the first inning as their first six batters reached. After three straight walks, Antonio Dominguez (Rock Island, Ill./United Township) was hit by a pitch to force in a run, and Devon Ballard (Fulton, Ill./Fulton) followed with an RBI single for a 2-0 lead. Noah Hoepfner (East Moline, Ill./United Township) was hit by a pitch to bring in another run, and Tyler Womack (Moline, Ill./Moline) added a sacrifice fly to make it 4-0.
- Rock Valley, among those receiving votes in the latest NJCAA Division III rankings, put runners on second and third with one away in the second, but Kale Orman (Erie, Ill./Erie) got back-to-back strikeouts to escape the jam.
Sandburg Standout
Orman threw six sharp innings to get the victory. The sophomore righthander allowed just five hits, struck out seven and didn’t issue a walk. He threw 64 of his 95 pitches for strikes and had first-pitch strikes to 18 of the 22 batters he faced. Kelly Osburn (East Moline, Ill./United Township) pitched a perfect seventh to finish off the combined shutout.

The Chargers held on after erupting for 10 runs in the third inning. Sandburg collected nine hits in the frame, with Braedon Blackford (Peoria, Ill./Notre Dame), Jordan Chandler (Erie, Ill./Erie) and Womack each picking up two.

Womack singled four times in four at-bats, scored a run and drove in a pair to lead the Chargers’ 17-hit attack.
