The awards keep coming in for Peyton Bowman (Sciota, Ill./West Prairie).

Shortly after being named the Sports Imports/American Volleyball Coaches Association Two-Year College Player of the Week on Wednesday morning, the Carl Sandburg College sophomore added NJCAA Division II Offensive Player of the Week for Sept. 30-Oct. 6 to her name, thanks to a dominant string of performances by the Chargers middle hitter.

It marks the second time Bowman has earned the NJCAA’s top weekly honor. She also won it last year in the first week of her collegiate career.

Bowman helped the Chargers sweep all six of their matches last week while totaling 100 kills (5.56 kills per set). The 6-foot-3 sophomore committed just five hitting errors in 148 total attempts, good for a monstrous .641 hitting percentage. Her 22 kills against Minnesota West on Oct. 4 at the NIACC Tournament were a season high.

Bowman also racked up 19 blocks (16 solo) on the week, averaging 3.2 per match, and she served up six aces, including three in Sandburg’s Arrowhead Conference sweep of Highland on Oct. 3.

Bowman has picked up right where she left off after being named Arrowhead Conference MVP, Region IV Player of the Year and NJCAA Division II Honorable Mention All-America last year as a freshman.

Through Tuesday, she leads all NJCAA Division II players with a .537 hitting percentage and 520.5 points. She also ranks second nationally in kills (400), third in points per set (5.5), sixth in solo blocks (72), eighth in total blocks (107) and eighth in kills per set (4.21).

Bowman has helped the Chargers to a 21-7 record this season, including wins in seven of their last eight matches. Sandburg is tied with Sauk Valley for first place in the conference and was among others receiving votes in this week’s NJCAA Division II rankings.
