Sandburg Men’s Golfers Hopping, Otting Wrap Up Season at Nationals

PLYMOUTH, Ind.
Carl Sandburg College men’s golfers Cole Hopping (Vermont, Ill./VIT) and Grant Otting (Taylor Ridge, Ill./Rockridge) competed in the NJCAA Division II Championship last week at Swan Lake Resort in Plymouth, Ind.
Both players qualified for nationals at the Region IV meet in October, marking the ninth straight year and 13th time in the last 14 years that Sandburg men’s golf has qualified at least one individual for nationals or advanced as a team.
Hopping, a freshman, tied for 71st at nationals after posting rounds of 79, 77, 81 and 82 for a 319 total. Otting, a sophomore, tied for 103rd after shooting 86, 83, 79 and 89 for a 336 total.
Cecil Belisle of South Mountain was the individual national champion after shooting a 6-under 282 over 72 holes. Parkland won the team title by two strokes over South Mountain, posting a 16-over total of 1,168.
