Students from five area high schools passed “Go,” collected $200 and learned essential accounting skills last week at a Monopoly competition hosted by Carl Sandburg College’s Business and Accounting Society of Sandburg (BASS).
About 45 students from Brimfield, Galesburg, Illini West, Rushville-Industry and Williamsfield high schools participated in the inaugural competition, which took place Thursday at Sandburg’s Main Campus in Galesburg. Teams of two or three were tasked with playing the classic board game while also tracking the necessary accounting records. They then prepared their financial statements when the game was finished.
Awards were given to the team at each table that recorded the highest net income. Overall awards were also given to the team with the best name and team with the highest value of total assets.
